Here's my two cents on the issue:
I've been fighting to put in a language filter or GM enforcement to block a lot of the garbage that flies in the Sat Channel a month ago, but I stopped about 3 weeks ago because of one major factor in the dreaded
End User Agreement:
4. ACCOUNT
(a) Eligibility. Accounts are available only to adult individuals eighteen (18) years of age or older. If you are less than 18 years of age and wish to use the Service, your parent(s) or guardian(s) must complete the registration process, open an Account in their name(s), and accept full responsibility for all obligations under this Agreement. Those who have completed these steps and who maintain their Account in good standing are sometimes referred to in this Agreement as "Member(s)", "User(s), or "Player(s)". By clicking the "I Agree" button you represent that you are an adult 18 years of age or older. Only one person may use an Account. The registered User of an Account may use the Account or may choose instead to permit a minor child of the registered User to use the Account. You are liable for all activities conducted through your Account, and parents or guardians are liable for all activities of their minor child conducted through the Account.
Note how it says you must be 18 years of age or older in order to create a TQ account to play their games, and how you need parental consent to play TQ games if you are under 18. That instantly makes TQ's games "M for Mature", so language is not an issue for any TQ game. I stopped my case to filter at least the Sat channel of garbage to protect the younger players, there was no point.
I would really like to see a toggle for ALL chat filters ingame though. There is no working Fleet chat filter, Satellite chat filter, Ship chat filter, etc. so you can turn off all the chats that do offend you.
If there is no way to filter the text present because it is a mature game, it should at least give the player some way to block the offensive content him/herself, and NOT with a finite blacklist or a chat settings filter that only blocks 80% of all chat, or FORCE the player to pay ZPs to cover up the offense. But this is TQ, that isn't going to happen, End User Agreement is proof of that.
That's my two cents on it.
Either make the game more friendly to younger players, or preserve the mature nature of the game. Take your pick, TQ.
