Well, idk if copying those files would really help. Re-installing probably would if done correctly.
Just all such problems happen because of 3 different reasons:
1) corrupted internal game configuration tables (mainly pointing what resource should be used for this and that)
2) old video card/drivers, not really willing to co-operate with Direct3D, DirectDraw
3) missing/corrupt files - in this case game either crashes or uses "blank". This is the most common reason. In either case there should be something written in LOG.
